What is a domain name?

 

It is in the form of textual address through which a host machine can easily be reached using Internet and it has labels, separated by dot.

 

What is an IP address?

 

An IP address is the numerical address separated by dots. Every computer attached through Internet has unique IP address.

 

Why name servers are required?

 

Every domain requires name servers for and these are essentially required for handling queries. These contains the information of hostnames and the corresponding IP addresses and these should be maintained and updated in DNS databases manually.

 

What is a primary name server?

 

 A primary server carries out the conversion of domain names into the respective IP addresses whenever the server receives a query from other name servers and DNS databases are maintained in the primary servers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

What is a secondary name server?

 

The secondary name server contains exactly a copy of the primary name server and it automatically downloads the update from primary server from time to time. It provides all the information if primary server goes down and therefore it is necessary to have a secondary name server.

 

 

Who can register a domain name?

 

Any individual above 18 years of age and having a NRIC of Malaysia can apply for a personal domain name, however organizations can apply for .com.my , .org.my and .net.my domain names with proper supporting documents. Other organizations and bodies as permitted by the government or federal agencies can apply for .mil.my, edu.my and .gov.my domain names. For details see the supporting document page.

 

How to choose a domain name?

 

You can choose a domain name that is a short name of yours if you are applying for a personal domain name, however it should not be prohibited or vulgar and if you are applying on behalf of your organization, it should reflect the organization name in the domain name. As domain names are allotted on first come first serve basis, an  already allotted domain name can not be issued to another person or organization.

 

What information should I provide with my application?

 

You will be asked to provide the following information with your application.

·        Identity proof or your NRIC copy or a copy of your passport

·        A valid e-mail id for correspondence

·        An internet link

·        A primary name server and a secondary name server and configure these for the domain name to be registered.

·        Email id and personal details of the technical person, who will reply to the queries.

 

Why my domain name application rejected?

 

Your application is generally rejected if

·        You don’t provide complete or accurate information in your application form

·        You are applying for a domain name for an organization, the organization name and registrant’s name are different

·        The supporting document are incomplete or not valid

What is domain name dispute?

 

A dispute arises when two parties one claims the right to register or use the domain name and another is the registrant of the domain name. Whenever a dispute arises, the dispute is resolved under the guidelines of certain rules and policies and you are required to accept the decision.

 

Who is a provider and what are the role’s of provider and how can we reach him?

 

A provider is the authorized body under law, which will look after resolution of the dispute and will appoint a person, who on behalf of the body will act as the judge and after receiving and reviewing all document will pass his or her decision.
